About
Noise Reduction Writing+Editing is the brainchild of Katie Morris, a San Francisco-based writer with over twenty years of writing and editing experience.
I started Noise Reduction when my second child was born and I saw my capacity to do creative writing work rapidly diminishing. I love language and clear communication, and I love collaborating with writers of all kinds to identify their communication goals, understand their audiences and help them get their messages across as effectively as possible.
I have worked on novels, short stories, marketing materials, copy for websites, children's fiction, essays, medical texts, academic papers and all things related to fundraising for nonprofits. As a writer, I am known for being able to translate rough ideas on a wide range of subjects—even dry ones—into highly readable and compelling communications. As an editor, I seek always to bring out the best in an author’s unique style and voice, and to go beyond identifying problems to offering actionable solutions.
I have a Masters in Creative Writing from Birkbeck College, University of London, and a B.A. in U.S. History from Columbia University. I am a co-author of The Decision to Use the Atomic Bomb (Knopf, 1995), as well as the author of the short story "Vital Signs" (Mechanics Institute Review, 2005) and "Toward Unobstructed Access," the ADA Self Evaluation Report for the City and County of San Francisco (2004).
I look forward to hearing from you.
